Erica is in charge of Exhibits going forward, but I am still tracking the proposals I submitted earlier this year.

We are still in the running for an exhibit at the Howard County Arts Council.

It’s tough to get in there, so just getting to round 2 is a good thing!

If you are familiar with doing proposals for exhibits and you can send me 2-3 quality images I can use for round 2 of the submission, you can just skip ahead to #5.

If you haven’t done this before here’s some background:

    1.  Here is what I got back from HCAC, so I need some more images to send them:

Thank you for your proposal for the exhibits program at the Howard County Arts Council. After a review of your submission and the other applications at their last meeting, the Exhibits Committee has expressed interest in your work and would like to hold your proposal for further consideration. Due to the limited slots available, not all held applicants will be offered exhibits.

If you would like to update anything in your application or submit new images, please email me at exhibits@hocoarts.org so I can re-open your application for editing. Updates must be submitted by January 1. I will send another update of your application by February.

    2.  How exhibit proposals work is weird.  Because you have to submit a proposal so far ahead of the actual exhibit, the images you send in are just examples to show the quality of our work.  You aren’t committing to doing ANYTHING in the future by providing me with images, and you aren’t making a commitment to how you would print or frame them.  You are just helping show the quality CMPG can produce.  And if we do get selected to exhibit and you do want to participate, you can submit DIFFERENT images at the time.  So you have nothing to lose here.

     3.       FWIW, this is the proposal I sent to HCAC:

The working title of our exhibit is “New Perspectives in Digital Photography”.

We want this to be not so much an exhibit for other photographers, but an experience that will help non-photographers learn about and appreciate the genre.  We hope to provide information along with the art that informs the viewer about new advances in the field and the wide range of creative opportunities available with digital images.

These works will also highlight new options and materials for displaying digital images.  All photos printed on paper will have traditional mats and frames and be wired for hanging in the traditional way.  But, we also have prints on metal, large panoramic prints on fabric, and prints on styrene and canvas (no unfinished edges).   The prints on fabric and styrene are not wired, but they are very lightweight, have no glass, and hang well on Command hooks and strips that we can provide.

    4.       The HCAC is on Ridge Road in Ellicott City.  It is a repurposed elementary school; the gallery simply is a long rectangle. The good news is that we will be able to display ANYTHING we want (that is non-political, non-religious, no nudes, no violence), no size restrictions, no format restrictions, NO REQUIRED THEME.  We can do standard frames, banners, styrene, metal, glass, canvas, wood, etc.  There will be room for 60+ items.
    5.       Please send me 2-3 images by Dec 8 that you think would be interesting in an exhibit and were taken within the last 2-3 years.
Tell me the Title, the date taken, and the expected outside dimensions of the piece (
which I know is silly because even the image may change before we get to exhibition.)

I’ve attached a list of the ones that I already submitted to HCAC in case you don’t remember.

    Thanks!

    Wanda
