CMPG Outing: Fort McHenry Privateer Day (18 Jul 2026)

Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine

Fort McHenry was the site of a critical battle during the War of 1812 which prevented the British fleet from attacking Baltimore, ultimately winning the war for the US and inspiring Francis Scott Key to write our National Anthem. Click for the web site.

We plan to have an outing on Saturday, July 18. There are a number of special events on this day, Privateer Day, with details on this web site.

A CMPG representative will be at the Fort at 9:00 am, but feel free to come at any time (the fort closes at 6:00 pm). There will be weapons demonstrations at 2:00 pm.

There is no fee for parking or walking around the fort. There is a fee of $15 (16 yr old and up) to enter the fort itself and photography is encouraged. Many of the special events are directed at younger children. Join us for a celebration of Baltimore history.

CMPG: NO August General Meeting (05 Aug 2026)

Please note that there will be NO General Meeting in August. Our Speaker Coordinators are currently arranging our fall presentations, and we will share details as they become available.

Additionally, please submit your images for the August Slideshow by July 25th. We will still produce the slideshow and share it via a direct YouTube link.

We always welcome suggestions for speakers and ideas for topics you'd like covered (all levels of skill!) so please, never hesitate to reach out!

A Touch of Color Challenge

When:

Wednesday, 19 August 2026, 6:30 to 9:00 PM (sunset: 7:57 PM)

Where:

Meet at Tiber Park in Old Ellicott City, at Maryland Avenue and Main Street, across from the B&O Museum.

Introduction:

Our next Hands-On Group activity is the Touch of Color Challenge. This is an activity for all skill levels. We’ll explore downtown Ellicott City shooting in Black & White. But there is a twist. While processing, we’ll add color to compliment the visual interest of the photograph. At least two techniques will be provided in the form of processing tutorials.

Overview:

Color is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive. – Elliott Erwitt*

We'll explore Old Ellicott City for about an hour in small groups on what I hope will be a lovely summer evening. We'll meet back at Tiber Park to discuss our experiences. Please bring your patience and cooperation and remember this is an exercise - please do not overly frustrate yourself. Make this an enjoyable experience.
