Our speaker, Jim Johnson, will cover the basics of Astrophotography, to include planetary vs. deep sky object imaging techniques, the various types of noise astophotographers must manage and noise reduction techniques, how an object that is barely brighter than the sky is pulled out of the darkness, and an overview of astrophotography tools and techniques.
Jim is a life-long space exploration and astronomy enthusiast. His past astronomical endeavors include serving as Howard Astronomical League (HAL) president, as a certified telescope operator in the HAL Observatory, and as an adjunct professor of astronomy at Howard Community College. Presently, he enjoys participating in public outreach activities in many forms. His primary pursuit in recent years has been solar system and deep space object astrophotography and traveling to remote dark-sky locations.
[NOTE: This presentation was originally scheduled for May, but was postponed due to illness. We are grateful Jim is well, and we are looking forward to his presentation!]
